Anaerobic Reducible LKV Blood Agar/Reducible Blood Agar with Neomycin and Vanomycin Biplate

Catalog number: R02136

Cultivate and isolate fastidious anaerobic bacteria with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Anaerobic Reducible LKV Blood Agar/Reducible Blood Agar, neomycin, vanomycin biplate. This divided culture plate contains reducible blood agar on one half, which improves the recovery of anaerobic organisms1,2.  The other half of the culture plate contains selective agents (laked-blood, kanamycin, vancomycin and neomycin), which allow the recovery of gram-negative anaerobes, especially Bacteriodes spp3 and Clostridium spp.

Anaerobic Reducible Blood Agar is a solid media recommended for use in qualitative procedures for the primary isolation and cultivation of fastidious anaerobic bacteria.

  • Selective: Kanamycin and vancomycin antibiotics inhibit gram-positive organisms and facultative anaerobic bacteria. Neomycin facilitates the isolation of anaerobic organisms, such as Bacteroides and Clostridium and inhibits enteric gram-negative bacilli.
  • Easy-to-detect: Laked blood is added to enhance pigment formation by anaerobic bacteria.
  • Ready-to-use: Convenience of prepared media.

Anaerobic Reducible Blood Agar is a nutritious medium containing peptone, hemin, vitamin K and sheep blood, which supply anaerobic organisms with required growth factors. Colistin and nalidixic inhibit the growth of most gram-negative bacilli. Kanamycin and vancomycin inhibit gram-positive organisms and facultative anaerobic bacteria. Neomycin facilitates the isolation of anaerobic organisms, such as Bacteroides and Clostridium spp. and inhibits enteric gram-negative bacilli.  Laked blood is added to enhance pigment formation by anaerobic bacteria.
