Limit the spread of MRSA by incorporating an effective screening protocol as part of your infection control program. Colonized patients must be targeted for isolation and appropriate treatment as early as possible; therefore, speed and accuracy of results are recognized as critical. Save time and infection control resources by giving negative patients the all-clear faster and more reliably.
  • Rapidly and economically detects nasal colonization of MRSA and MRSA from positive blood cultures
  • Aids in the prevention of MRSA infections
  • Delivers high Positive Predictive Value (PPV) to reduce unnecessary costs
  • Enables quick, efficient screening of patients
  • Produces easy-to-read, denim blue colonies on an opaque background
  • Requires no special handling for optimal workflow 24/7
Spectra MRSA is a selective medium for the screening of clinical samples for the presence of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), with results available within 18 hours and no need to reincubate negatives. The opaque medium incorporates a novel chromogen that yields a blue color as a result of phosphatase activity. This enzyme is present in many staphylococci including Staphylococcus aureus. To allow the differentiation of MRSA accurately, the medium contains a combination of antibacterial compounds designed to inhibit the growth of a wide variety of competitor organisms and MSSA. Also included are compounds to suppress the expression of phosphatase activity in other staphylococci, thus ensuring a high level of sensitivity and specificity.
