ERIC™ Electronic Compendium (version 1.0.771) Installation on 64-bit Operating Systems

Condition: A solution has been issued for ERIC software CD customers wishing to install the software on 64-bit operating systems.

The software installer contained on the CD is compatible with 16-bit and 32-bit operating systems only.


Solution: An additional software installer is available on the ERIC® Downloads & Updates web page. This installer can be used in place of the ERIC CD to install the software on 64-bit Microsoft Windows operating systems.

The installer is a self-extracting application that will perform the ERIC™ Electronic Compendium (version 1.0.771) installation on a 64-bit Microsoft Windows operating system.

Step 1. Copy the file, ERIC-64bit.zip, to your computer. The file may be copied to any location, including your desktop. The file will contain both the self-extracting installer file and a copy of this set of instructions.


Step 2. Once copied to a location, open ERIC-64bit.zip and extract all files, including ERIC-64bit.exe.


Step 3. Double-click on the ERIC-64bit.exe file to launch the installer. The installer should be titled ERIC RapID 1.0.771. Read the instructions on the screen and click "Extract".


Step 4. The installer will check for the presence of Microsoft Windows update KB917607. This update allows help files to be viewed within the ERIC software. If the update is not present you will be prompted to install it. Click on "Yes" if prompted.


Step 5. Accept the license. Microsoft Windows Help (WINHLP32.exe) will be installed. When the "Installation complete" message appears, click on the "Close" button.


Step 6. Once the Microsoft Help update has been installed, click on the "Next" button of the ERIC installer welcome screen.


Step 7. View the ERIC setup information and warning and click "Next".


Step 8. Read and accept the End User License Agreement (click "Yes").


Step 9. Click "Next" after viewing the Readme Information.


Step 10. Choose a destination. Typically this should be the default of C:\Program Files\REMEL\ERIC or the 64-bit default of C:\Program Files (x86)\REMEL\ERIC. Click "Next".


Step 11. Choose a Program Folder (default is Remel) and click on "Next".


Step 12. Check the current settings again and click "Next". The installer will copy files, create icons, etc.


Step 13. When setup is complete, clear all check boxes and click the "Finish" button.


Step 14. Close any open command windows.


Step 15. You may need to refresh the screen to see the correct ERIC icon. Right click on an empty area of desktop and click on "Refresh".
