Our initiatives to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
We believe in the responsible use of natural resources and strive for continuous improvement in our efforts to help the environment. Every day we make new strides in sustainability to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. That means investing in new technology and equipment in our manufacturing processes, applying energy-efficient tools and techniques in our operations, and encouraging and supporting our employees to live and work in a more environmentally friendly way.
Recent activities include:
- Energy saving occupancy light sensors, fluorescent bulbs, electronic ballasts and skylights
- Natural water detention systems to reduce water runoff into sewer systems
- Tankless water heaters for on-demand water heating
- Waste heat recovery and reuse
- Computer controlled energy management systems
- Updated refrigeration systems to avoid use of ozone depleting chemicals
- Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) flooring and paint
- Mercury-free product portfolio
- Lighter weight cardboard boxes for packaging and shipping
- Reuse of 150,000+ petri dish boxes from our suppliers for internal product transfers and shipments to customers
- Active recycling of cardboard boxes, paper, aluminum cans, computer hardware, batteries, Tyvek®, steel and aluminum equipment and materials
